Annual General Meeting, 2024

The 100th AGM was held at 1.30pm on Saturday 1 June 2024 at Hallé St Peter’s, Ancoats, Manches ter. The 57 people in attendance were welcomed by our president, The Rt. Hon. Lord Inglewood, who announced that confirmation had been re ceived from Buckingham Palace confirming that King Charles III would continue his patronage of the Society. After receipt of apologies for absence from four trustees, Phil Thomas, Jill Channer, Cara Hepburn and Peter Mitchell, the minutes of the 2023 AGM (as published in Volume 07 of Heritage Now ) were confirmed to be a true record. Chairman, Giles Quarme, presented his report, reflecting on 2023 as a year of change and de velopment. A new director, Liz Power, had joined

the team in January 2023 and our secular case worker, Ross Anthony, had increased his work ing hours from four days a week to five. It was reported that our director had been tasked by Historic England to develop Carbon Literacy training, a programme that will provide an income. Another major change was the move from St Ann’s Vestry Hall, home to the AMS / HB&P for 30 years, to 37 Spital Square − a move necessitated by the poor condition of the leased building and the ongoing financial burden of maintenance. Mr Quarme noted several technological im provements in 2023, including new financial and administrative systems and the digitalisation of the back catalogue of our journal, Transactions of the Ancient Monuments Society , now freely
